The International Women’s Day which is celebrated every year on March 8 –  represents a day for women all over the world to come together to celebrate the social, political and economic achievements of women. IWD is also a day for women to continue to push the discussions on equality and representation forward.

For International Women’s Day this year the theme  set by the UN with the theme - “Gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow.” with the campaign represented by #Breakingthebias. The UN calls on everyone to concede efforts towards a world that is inclusive, equitable and free from all forms of bias as well as discrimination to level the playing field for women of all shapes, colour and sizes.

As the world celebrates women this year for #IWD2022, Afriex is excited to be a brand committed to helping to shape the narrative for women by breaking the bias presently and as we continue to evolve as a brand. Today, Afriex currently boasts of a team where women represented across roles and the brand’s leadership and we are constantly looking for ways to uplift, support and empower the women on our team as we work toward helping our users across the US, UK, Canada, Nigeria, Kenya, and Uganda move their money effortlessly.

Historically,  the idea to celebrate International Women’s Day started in 1910 in Copenhagen, Denmark where an International Socialist Women’s Conference took place. It was during the conference that Clara Zetkin, a German communist activist, brought up the idea that there be a designated day for women everywhere to “press for their demands”. Clara’s idea was met with unanimous approval from all the women present representing 17 countries, this has led to celebrating the IWD yearly.
